About: World Public Holidays

World Public Holidays lists national public holidays for more than 100 countries using the open-source python-holidays dataset (MIT licence), rebuilt every day so that the "today" and "next 7 days" lists stay current.

Holiday names are shown in the page language when the dataset provides it, otherwise in English.

National public holidays only; regional holidays and observances may differ. Some religious holidays depend on moon sighting and can shift by a day — check official announcements.

Japan's dates are cross-checked daily against the Cabinet Office list of national holidays.

How this site works

Once a day an automated job downloads the latest public data from the sources listed below, checks it and rebuilds these static pages. Nothing is invented or estimated by us: every number comes from a cited source.

Data sources

• python-holidays (vacanza/holidays) — open-source holiday dataset — MIT licence, version 0.105
• Cabinet Office of Japan — National holidays (内閣府「国民の祝日について」) — used to cross-check Japan

Languages

The interface is available in 14 languages and was translated by hand. Where free text from a source is translated, it is done by offline machine translation and labelled as such.
